Hey hey #Insider,
In the past few months, I’ve noticed a trend with my clients and new client inquiries. There’s a misunderstanding between what creates a business and what sustains a business. Doing “all the things” doesn’t guarantee success much less than doing nothing does.
Aside from creating confusion -- this energy is also a supreme recipe for burnout. But that’s a topic for another day. Personally, I know when I get caught up in all the things -- it’s because I’m actually distracted by what the ONE thing is I should be doing. So let’s break it down…
How do you make money in your business?
What activities support you in making money in your business?
I call these revenue-generating activities.
Because the bottom line is...if it don’t make dollars, it don’t make sense. Get it?! Lol, I love that phrase. But anyway, if you're stuck on what this looks like for you, go back to your very first client. What did that process look like from start to finish?
Where did they come from?
What did you do to support them?
What was their process?
What worked well?
What needs to change?
Where are they now?
If you don’t quite yet have that first client -- that’s fine. I encourage you to study others in your field. Let me repeat that, study -- not steal.
One thing about business, there is always a tried and true approach. Feel free to flip it and reverse it later...when you are more familiar with your process. But in the beginning, don’t try to reinvent the wheel. Find the people in your industry who represent where you are looking to grow and become a student. [Remind me to have that "all-that-glitters isn't-gold" talk another day -- just check for receipts beyond IG followers, please!]
